Certificate of Standing - Lawyer

Lawyers may be required to provide a Certificate of Standing to a third party to confirm their entitlement to practise law for employment or other purposes. Lawyers wanting to practise law in another jurisdiction may be required to submit a Certificate of Standing along with their licensing application. A lawyer ordering a Certificate of Standing for mobility purposes should first check with the other jurisdiction to determine if his/her current status and liability insurance meet the minimum requirements of the other jurisdiction prior to placing an order.The cost for a Certificate of Standing is $50.00 (plus taxes). The cost of an additional copy is $10.00 (plus taxes). It may take up to 10 business days to process a Certificate of Standing. A Certificate of Standing will not be prepared and released to a third party without the subject licensee’s authorization. Certificate Update Letter - Lawyer

Lawyers who have applied to practise law in another jurisdiction and who have submitted a Certificate of Standing, may be required to submit a Certificate of Standing Update Letter if the other jurisdiction requires up-to-date information. The cost for a Certificate of Standing Update Letter is $25.00 (plus applicable taxes). Depending on the volume of requests being processed, it takes up to 10 business days to complete a Certificate of Standing Update Letter. Prior to ordering a Certificate of Standing Update Letter, lawyers should first confirm that the other jurisdiction will accept an update letter instead of a newly issued Certificate of Standing. The Law Society will only issue an update letter if you ordered a Certificate of Standing within the past 90 days. If you have any questions please contact Membership Services at records@lsuc.on.ca.

Status Letter - Lawyer

A Status Letter may be ordered by a lawyer or by third parties. The cost for a Status Letter is $25.00 (plus taxes). The cost of an additional copy is $5.00 (plus taxes).
